About this tool
Roof cost planning without the fake exact quote.
Roofing Cost Calculator is a homeowner planning tool for comparing common roof replacement paths before calling contractors. It estimates roof area from home footprint, applies pitch and waste factors, then compares installed material ranges, tear-off, flashing, and optional decking allowances.
The calculator is not a roofing contractor, does not replace an inspection, and does not sell your project as a lead. It is built to make budget ranges easier to understand before you ask for local quotes.

Who runs this site
This site is operated by Ryan Benson, a home-services professional based in Alabama. Ryan has spent his career in residential flooring and remodeling, working directly with homeowners on replacement budgets, material comparisons, and contractor bids. Roofing Cost Calculator applies that same budget-first approach to roof replacement: honest ranges instead of fake precision, and plain-English explanations of every line item a roofer might quote.
Questions, corrections, and data challenges go straight to Ryan by email — see the contact page.
How the estimates are built
Every range on this site starts from a footprint-based roof area estimate. Your home's living area is converted to roof area using standard pitch multipliers, then a waste factor (typically 10–15%, higher for complex hips, valleys, and dormers) is applied for cutting and defect allowance. Material pricing is expressed as installed ranges — materials plus labor — drawn from 2026 national cost data and cross-checked against typical regional spreads.
Where a cost varies sharply by situation, such as deck replacement or reflashing around a chimney, we show it as a separate line instead of hiding it inside the base number. That is deliberate: most budget surprises come from items quoted separately, not from the per-square price.
What this tool is not
- Not a quote. Only a local roofer who walks your roof can price your job.
- Not a lead-generation form for contractors. Nothing you enter is sold or shared.
- Not a substitute for an inspection, especially after storm or hail damage.
Editorial standards and updates
Cost data is reviewed at least twice a year and after major material price moves. Sources and methodology are summarized on the editorial policy page, and advertising relationships are disclosed on the advertising disclosure page. If a number looks wrong for your region, send the details and it will be checked against current data.
